Using DXView's Scan DX Function to Identify Openings

DXView's ability to plot both active DX stations and the stations that spot them can identify current band openings. To exploit this capability, one should limit the plot to stations on one band at a time. That can be done using the Band Filter panel on the Configuration window's Plot Settings tab, but sequencing through each of the HF bands that way would require lots of mouse clicks. DXView's Scan DX function automates this process by enabling you to specify a set of bands and the amount of time that each band's DX and spotting stations should be displayed; initiating the function the causes DXView to sequentially display the active DX and spotting stations on each band, lingering on each band for the specified time interval, as shown in this video.

Configuration

  1. On the General tab of SpotCollector's Configuration window, check the General panel's Lookup missing location info box; this will ensure that the location of each active DX station and spotting station is determined

  2. On the Audio Alarm tab of SpotCollector's Configuration window, check the Enable box near the upper-right corner; this will enable SpotCollector to announce the name of each band as its active DX and spotting stations are displayed

  3. On the Plot Settings tab of DXView's Configuration window,

    1. check boxes in the Scan DX Bands panel for each band you want included in the scan sequence

    2. set the dwell box to the number of seconds DXView should linger on each band in the scan sequence

  4. On the World Map tab of DXView's Configuration window,

    1. to display active DX stations and spotting stations on DXView's built-in world map, check the Built-in Cylindrical Equidistant panel's Enable box

    2. to display active DX stations and spotting stations on DX Atlas (if installed), check the DX Atlas panel's Enable box.

Initiation

To initiate the scan sequence, click the Scan DX button near the bottom of DXView's Info window. The name of the band currently being displayed will appear immediate above the Scan DX button.
