Setting DXing Objectives
Setting DXCC Award Objectives
On the Awards tab of DXKeeper's Config window, the band and mode boxes in the DXCC Bands & Modes panel determine
which callsigns are highlighted as needed in DXKeeper's Main and Capture windows and in WinWarbler's QSO Info panel (via bold red font)
for what QSOs DXKeeper generates an outgoing QSL card/label soliciting confirmation when you invoke the AddNeeded operation
whether or not DXKeeper prints Please! or Pse! on generated QSL cards and labels respectively
which QSOs are considered by DXKeeper's QSL Aging report
which QSOs are included in a DXCC submission generated by DXKeeper
which QSOs prompt DXKeeper to issue a send to DXCC desk reminder when you record their confirmation
- which newly-imported QSOs DXKeeper reports as confirming or verifying needed entity-bands or entity-modes
- which newly-received LotW confirmations DXKeeper flags as confirming needed entity-bands or entity-modes
which band rows and mode columns DXView highlights with white backgrounds in its entity progress display to indicate needed but unconfirmed
which Spot Database Entries SpotCollector highlights as needed and announces audibly, with a D in the Needed column
If your goal is the DXCC award or mixed DXCC Honor Role, then uncheck all the band and mode boxes (because you need only work each DXCC entity once -- on any band in any mode)
If your goal is the DXCC phone Honor Role, then check the Phone box.
If your goal is the DXCC CW Honor Role, then check the CW box.
If your goal is the DXCC RTTY Honor Role, then check the RTTY box (PSK QSOs are automatically "counted" towards RTTY awards; don't check the PSK box unless you want to work every DXCC entity on PSK).
If your goal is the 5-band DXCC award, then uncheck all of the band and mode boxes except 10M, 15M, 20M, 40M, and 80M.
If you're competing in the TopList award programs, then check all boxes except 2M, 6M, and PSK.
If you're competing in the DXCC Challenge award program, then check all the band boxes except 2M; unless you're also pursuing DXCC honor roll on one or more modes or TopList, uncheck all the mode boxes.
If you have multiple objectives, then check all of the boxes required by each objective.
Setting CQ DX Marathon Award Objectives
On the Awards tab of DXKeeper's Config window, checking the Realtime Award Progress box in the Marathon panel enables realtime award tracking for the CQ DX Marathon award administered by CQ Magazine. With this box checked, the band and mode boxes in the Marathon panel determine
which callsigns are highlighted as needed in DXKeeper's Main and Capture windows and in WinWarbler's QSO Info panel (via bold red font)
- which newly-imported QSOs DXKeeper reports as working needed CQ Marathon country-bands, country-modes, zone-bands, and zone modes
which Spot Database Entries SpotCollector highlights as needed and announces audibly, with a M in the Needed column for a needed CQ Marathon country and and an N in the Needed column for a needed CQ Marathon zone.
Unless your goal is a single-band or single-mode certificate, uncheck all the band and mode boxes.
Setting WAZ Award Objectives
On the Awards tab of DXKeeper's Config window, checking the Realtime Award Progress box in the WAZ Bands & Modes panel enables realtime award tracking for the WAZ family of awards administered by CQ Magazine. With this box checked, the band and mode boxes in the WAZ Bands & Modes panel determine
which callsigns are highlighted as needed in DXKeeper's Main and Capture windows and in WinWarbler's QSO Info panel (via bold red font)
for what QSOs DXKeeper generates an outgoing QSL card/label soliciting confirmation when you invoke the AddNeeded operation
whether or not DXKeeper prints Please! or Pse! on generated QSL cards and labels respectively
which QSOs are considered by DXKeeper's QSL Aging report
- which newly-imported QSOs DXKeeper reports as confirming or verifying needed CQ zones, zone-bands, zone-modes, or zone-band-modes
- which newly-received LotW confirmations DXKeeper flags as confirming needed CQ zones, zone-bands, zone-modes, or zone-band-modes
which Spot Database Entries SpotCollector highlights as needed and announces audibly, with a Z in the Needed column
If your goal is the Mixed WAZ award, then uncheck all the band and mode boxes (because you need only work each CQ zone once -- on any band in any mode)
If your goal is one or more mode-specific WAZ awards, e.g. CW WAZ, then check the mode box associated each mode.
If your goal is one or more band-specific WAZ awards, e.g. 160M WAZ, then check the band box associated with each band, and check the box of the mode in which these QSOs will be made (QSOs submitted towards a WAZ band award must all be made in the same mode); if you are pursuing 160M WAZ and 20M WAZ in CW, then you would check the 160M, 20M, and CW boxes.
If your goal is the 5-band WAZ award, then uncheck all of the band and mode boxes except 10M, 15M, 20M, 40M, 80M, and the box associated with the mode in which all submitted QSOs will be made. If you're competing in the TopList award programs, then check all boxes except 2M, 6M, and PSK.
If you have multiple objectives, then check all of the boxes required by each objective.
If you are pursuing 160M WAZ in CW and 20M WAZ in SSB, then you would check the 160M, 20M, CW, and SSB boxes. DXKeeper and SpotCollector will assume that you are also pursuing 160M WAZ in SSB and 20M WAZ in CW, and notify you of opportunities accordingly.
Note: if you are using SpotCollector and change your DXing objectives, the "need colorization" of pre-existing Spot Database Entries will still reflect your previous DXing objectives. To update the "need colorization" of these entries, open the the Spot Database tab of SpotCollector's Config window, and click the Recomp button in the lower-right corner.
