Controlling a WinKey

Required Connections

  • An RS-232 connection between the WinKey's serial port and a serial port on your PC

  • A connection between the WinKey's straight key output and your transceiver's straight key input

Configuring WinWarbler

On the Config window's CW tab,

  • set the Keying panel to WinKey, and set the port selector to the serial port on your PC to which your WinKey is connected

  • in the WinKey panel,

    • set the speed potentiometer sub-panel's minimum and maximum speeds (e.g. to 15 and 30 respectively)

    • select the speed potentiometer sub-panel's 2-wire or 3-wire button to match your WinKey's speed potentiometer wiring; see the WinKey manual for details.

    • in the timing sub-panel,

      • set the Farnsworth speed; to disable Farnsworth-style transmission, set this parameter to 0

      • set the dot/dash ration (e.g. to 75)

      • set the first extension and compensation to 0; see the WinKey manual for details.

      • to generate a sidetone, enable the sidetone sub-panel and select the desired frequency

      • set the paddle sub-panel to reflect your choice of manual input; see the WinKey manual for details.

      • set the output port panel to reflect your WinKey's wiring; see the WinKey manual for details.
