Operating in CW

Setting up for CW Transmission

  1. Setup the [:PTTMechanism: Transceiver-to-PC PTT (reception-transmission switching) connection]
  2. Setup the [:CWConnection:CW Keying connection]

  3. [:ConfigureCW: Configure WinWarbler for CW Operation]

  4. Configure your transceiver
    1. set your transceiver frequency to an open CW band
    2. if [:TransceiverControl: Commander] isn't running, set your transceiver's mode to CW

Note: to display decoded CW, WinWarbler requires either an [:ExternalModemControl:external HF modem] (e.g. KAM 98, MFJ 464, PK232, PK900, and PTC-IIe) or the applications [http://www.dxsoft.com/en/products/cwget CWGet] and [http://home.roadrunner.com/~w3oa/CWGetToWinwarbler CWGet to WinWarbler].

Main window in CW Mode

Operating CW

To transmit CW, on WinWarbler's Main window

  • set the WPM box to the desired speed in words per minute

  • click the Start button in the CW transmit panel

  • type the characters to be sent in the Main windows Transmit pane

  • click the Stop button in the CW transmit panel

Your transceiver should switch from reception to transmission, transmitted characters should appear in the Main window's Receive pane, and your transceiver should switch from transmission to reception after all characters have been sent. You can also transmit by [:Macros:constructing and invoking macros].

Decoding and display of received CW is only available via the [http://www.dxlabsuite.com/winwarbler/Help/CW.htm#Additional%20CW%20options use of an external modem], or via [http://home.roadrunner.com/~w3oa/CWGetToWinwarbler/CWGetToWinWarbler.zip interoperation with CWGet].
