Adding Support for a New Mode

  1. Terminate DXKeeper and SpotCollector

  2. If there's no Modes.txt file present in DXKeeper's Databases folder, create one by making a copy of that folder's DefaultModes.txt file and naming the copy Modes.txt

  3. Using a text editing application like Notepad, add an entry to the Modes.txt file that lists the awards for which the new mode is valid. The details for adding an entry are documented here, but most new digital modes can follow FT8's example:

    • FT8, DXCC_RTTY, WAZ_Digital, WPX_Digital, WAS_Digital
  4. If the new mode is a digital mode not yet accepted by LoTW, configure TQSL to automatically map the mode to DATA, as described here

  5. If there are specific sub-bands in which the new mode is expected to dominate, add entries to SpotCollector's Sub-band Definition file, as described here

If a Modes.txt file present in DXKeeper's Databases folder, it takes precedence over DefaultModes.txt; you are responsible for maintaining the contents of Modes.txt file when new modes become available.

If the mode you've added is later standardized by ADIF and included in the DefaultModes.txt file present in DXKeeper's Databases folder, you can terminate DXKeeper and SpotCollector and then delete the Modes.txt file. When DXKeeper and SpotCollector are next started, they'll reference the DefaultModes.txt file.
