== Setting up User-defined Control Sets ==

If you have Commander configured to [[ControlMultipleRadios|control more than one primary transceiver]], you can setup a '''User-defined Control Set''' for each primary transceiver so that when a transceiver is selected, Commander will

 1. send an initial radio (CAT) command to the transceiver

 1. execute an initial Command Sequence

 1. place a specified set of [[http://www.dxlabsuite.com/commander/Help/CommandSequences.htm#Command|User-defined Controls]] (sequences and sliders) onto the '''Main''' window's '''User-defined Controls''' panel 

To configure any of the above capabilities for a primary transceiver, begin by clicking that transceiver's '''Edit''' button in the '''User-defined Control Sets''' panel on the '''Configuration''' window's '''Multi Radio''' tab; this will display Commander's '''User-defined Control Set Configuration''' window.


=== Specifying an Initial Radio Command ===

You can specify an initial radio command by typing it into the '''Initial Command''' box using either hexadecimal or ascii format:

 * a hexadecimal radio command is specified by an even number of hexadecimal characters, e.g. ''FEFE26EO0700FD''

 * an ASCII radio command is specified by a sequence of ASCII characters preceded by a single apostrophe, e.g. '' 'AN1;''

Either format can include [[http://www.dxlabsuite.com/commander/Help/CommandSequences.htm#Substitution%20strings|Substitution Strings]]; for example, the command ''FEFE<CIV>E00603FD'' will set an Icom transceiver's mode to ''CW''.

If the '''Initial Command''' box is empty, no initial radio command will be sent when the transceiver is selected.

 1. click the '''Initial Command Sequence''' panel's '''Select''' button

If an '''Initial Command''' and an '''Initial Command Sequence''' are both specified, the '''Initial Command Sequence''' will be activated after the '''Initial Command''' is sent to the transceiver.

=== Specifying a set of User-defined Controls ===

The User-defined Sequences and Sliders to be placed onto the '''Main''' window's '''User-defined Controls''' panel when the radio is selected must each have been saved to a file. If you downloaded these controls but didn't retain the downloaded files, or if you created these controls but haven't yet saved them to files, then

 1. create ''Sequences'' and ''Sliders'' folders in your Commander folder (if such folders do not already exist)

 1. on Commander's '''Main''' window, 

   a. select the radio to which these User-defined Controls apply

   a. right-click each '''User-defined Sequence''' button; in the displayed '''User-defined Command Sequence''' window, click the '''Save''' button and specify an appropriately named file in the ''Sequences'' folder

  a. double-click the caption beneath each '''User-defined Slider'''; in the displayed '''User Slider Configuration''' window, click the '''Save''' button and specify an appropriately named file in the ''Sliders'' folder

To specify a set of User-defined Controls,

 1. In the '''User-defined Control Set Configuration''' window's '''User-defined Controls''' panel, click the '''Select''' button to the right of the '''Sequence 1 pathname''' box; use the file selection window that appears to choose the file whose contents specify the User-defined Sequence to be activated by the left-most user-defined sequence button when this radio is selected.

 1. repeat step 1 for each of the other User-defined Sequences files that you've prepared (or downloaded) for use with this radio

 1. In the '''User-defined Control Set Configuration''' window's '''User-defined Controls''' panel, click the '''Select''' button to the right of the '''Slider 1 pathname''' box; use the file selection window that appears to choose the file whose contents specify User-defined Slider to be activated by the left-most user-defined slider when this radio is selected.

 1. repeat step 3 for each of the other User-defined Slider files that you've prepared (or downloaded) for use with this radio

 1. after all User-defined Controls have been specified, save the Control Set you've just defined into a file:

   a. click the '''Save''' button in the upper-right corner of the '''User-defined Control Set Configuration''' window

   a. specify the name and location of the file into which the Control Set should be saved; creating a folder named ''Control Sets'' and save each radio's control set file in this folder with the radio's name -- e.g. FT2000.txt or IC746.txt -- is recommended.
