Multiple Logging Roles: Managing a Club Station or Serving as a QSL Manager

If you are managing a club station or serving as a QSL Manager for another station, then you should maintain separate log files for your personal QSOs, club station QSOs, and managed station QSOs. Controls in the Configuration window's Log File panel support this mode of operation by enabling you to

  • create an empty new log and then open it
  • select an existing log by navigating with a Windows file selector or by typing its pathname, and then open it

Besides the log file to use, other settings may be different as a function of the role you are currently playing. You may want QSL cards generated from your personal log to include a background image, for example, while QSOs made from your club station are confirmed by generating QSL labels that are affixed to pre-printed cards. You can use the Launcher's ability save and load DXKeeper's settings to and from files to maintain multiple "sets of settings" -- one set for personal operations, another set for club operations, and a set for each station for whom you are managing QSLs. In the following example, Larry NN5O serves as manager for club station KD5DD.

Initial Setup

  1. Configure DXKeeper for use by NN5O for personal operations
    • open the log file used to record NN5O's QSOs
    • configure QSLing and other settings for use with NN5O personal operations
  2. Terminate DXKeeper
  3. On the Launcher's Configuration window, click the DXKeeper's Registry Sv button, and save DXKeeper's Registry Settings to a file named DXK_NN5O.reg

  4. Start DXKeeper
  5. Configure DXKeeper to manage operations for club station KK5DD
    • open the log file used to record KD5DD's QSOs
    • configure QSLing and other settings for use with KD5DD club station operations
  6. Terminate DXKeeper
  7. On the Launcher's Configuration window, click the DXKeeper's Registry Sv button, and save DXKeeper's Registry Settings to a file named DXK_KK5DD.reg

  8. Configure SpotCollector to always reference the NN5O log file, no matter which log file is currently open in DXKeeper. In the Log file referenced for award progress panel at the bottom of its Configuration window's Spot Database tab, select Use Log in specified pathname and select the pathname of NN5O's log file.

Switching Operations from KD5DD to NN5O

  1. Terminate DXKeeper

1 On the Launcher's Configuration window, click the DXKeeper's Registry Ld button, and load DXKeeper's Registry settings from the previously-saved file DXK_NN5O.reg

  2. Start DXKeeper

Switching Operations from NN5O to KD5DD

  1. Terminate DXKeeper
  2. On the Launcher's Configuration window, click the DXKeeper's Registry Ld button, and load DXKeeper's Registry settings from the previously-saved file DXK_KD5DD.reg

  3. Start DXKeeper

Changing Settings

If you change DXKeeper settings while operating as NN5O and want those settings to persist in future NN5O operating sessions, terminate DXKeeper and direct the Launcher to save DXKeeper's Registry Settings to DXK_NN5O.reg

If you change DXKeeper settings while operating as KD5DD and want those settings to persist in future KD5DD operating sessions, terminate DXKeeper and direct the Launcher to save DXKeeper's Registry Settings to DXK_KD5DD.reg
