== Running DXLab Applications on Linux ==

DXLab applications will not run natively on Linux, nor will Wine enable their use on Linux. 

The combination of [[http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html|Oracle VM VirtualBox]], Windows 10, and [[http://www.ubuntu.com/|Ubuntu]] has been used successfully. 

 * Install [[http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html|Guest Additions]]

 * To configure native serial ports

   1. launch the '''!VirtualBox Manager'''

   1. highlight the guest OS with a single mouse-click

   1. at the top, click on the ''gear'' icon labelled '''Settings'''

   1. select '''Serial Ports'''

   1. configure one or two serial ports for use by the guest OS

   1. click '''OK''' at the bottom right of the window

   1. launch the guest OS; Windows XP will go through the normal process of finding new hardware, loading the necessary drivers, etc.

 * To configure USB-to-serial-port adaptors

   1. launch the '''!VirtualBox Manager'''

   1. highlight the guest OS with a single mouse-click

   1. select '''USB'''

   1. enable the '''USB Controller''' 

   1. if your device employs USB 2.0, enable the '''USB 2.0 (EHCI) Controller'''

   1. select '''USB Add''' (+) from the far right set of icons

   1. select the device that represents the USB serial port you are adding

   1. click '''OK''' at the bottom right of the window

   1. launch the guest OS; Windows XP will go through the normal process of finding new hardware, loading the necessary drivers, etc.
