This is a private message. The attached Launcher version 1.3.7 - display pathnames for non-DXLab applications, correcting a regression introduced in 1.3.5 (tnx to Joe W4TV) - provides the ability to download and install full releases, complementing the upgrade capability introduced in 1.3.5 When you run this release and open the Config window, any DXLab applications NOT installed on your PC will be displayed in red font. The Launcher figures this out by inspecting the Windows registry; if the results are incorrect for your PC, please let me know and don't proceed any further. In this release, the Config window's cryptically-labelled "Up" buttons have been widened, and are now captioned either "Install" (if the application has not yet been installed on your PC) or "Upgrade" (if the application has been installed, but a newer version is available). For an uninstalled application, clicking its Install button will 1. confirm that you really want to install the application 2. prompt you to choose a folder in which to install the application (providing the ability to create new folders if necessary) 3. download the appropriate zip archive from your selected download site, extract its contents, and run the Setup program to install the application 4. within 10 seconds of the Setup program's completion, update the installed application's status in the Config window 5. download and install any additional required files (e.g. the most recent DXCC database, the most recent IOTA database, the most recent Search library) 6. ask you if you want to download and install any auxiliary files (e.g. country maps, audio announcement files) and download/install these as appropriate When Installation is complete, you should then click the application's Upgrade button to get the most recent development release; I did not make this automatic in 1.3.7, but could easily do so if we think it best. If there are DXLab applications not installed on your PC, then testing the above new functionality will be easy and low-risk. If you've installed all the DXLab applications on your PC and don't have a spare machine with which to test, then if you really want to test the new functionality (and I will certainly understand if you choose not to!), you should A. pick some non-critical DXLab application (e.g. Pathfinder) B. save its registry settings to a file (un-installing and re-installing does not destroy or modify registry settings, but save them just in case something goes wrong) C. uninstall the application using the Windows Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs applet, and then delete its folder D. click the "New?" button on the Launcher's Config window to update the application's status (it should now be displayed in red font) E. install the application (either to the same folder, or if you've been planning to move things around, then to the desired folder), as described above; if the Setup program asks you whether you want to keep files that are more recent than the ones being installed, by all means choose "yes"! F. upgrade the newly-installed application to the current release, and then try running it Assuming your testing exposes no defects or need for additional automation, the only thing left for me to do is create a turnkey installation for the Launcher, which would be the first thing new users install and run. I will set this up to install in c:\program files\dxlab suite\launcher by default, but the user will be able to choose another folder if desired. Jerry, I assume you'll want to update your "How to Download, Install, and Get Started in Seven Easy Steps". Please let me know how it goes... 73, Dave, AA6YQ
